INTRODUCTION
is when you feed your baby with breastmilk usually directly from your breast, it’s called nursing . making the decision to breast feed is a personal matter.
UNICEF & WHO recommend that children initiates breastfeeding within the first hour of birth and can be exclusively breastfed for the first six month of life.
DIFFERENT STAGE OF BREAST MILK COMPOSITION .

- colostrum: first stage at milk colostrum occur during pregnancy and last for several days after baby’s birth.
- transitional : second stage of milk

ADVANTAGE OF BREAST FEEDING
breastfeeding can help protect babies against some short and long term illness and disease, breastfeeding babies have a lower risk as asthma, obesity , type 1 diabetes and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)breastfed babies are also loss likely to have ear infections & stomach bug.
DISASVANTAGE OF NOT BREASTFEEDING
increase incidence of infectious morbidity e.g otitis media , gastroenteritis, pneumonia as well as elevated risk or childhood obesity, type2 diabetes and leukemia

GOLDEN RULE OF BREAST FEEDING
- give newborn infant no food or drink other than breast milk unless medically indicated.

WHEN SHOY YOU STOP BREASTFEEDING
The U. S dietary guidelines for American 2020 -2025 recommended that infant be exclusively breast fed for about first 6 month with continued breast feeding while introducing appropriate complimentary food for 1 year
BREASTFEEDING POSITION
- lie your baba across your lap , facing you
- place your baby’s head on your forearm , nose toward your nipple your hand should support the length with their body
- place your baby lower arm under yours
- check to make your your baby’s ears, shoulder and lap are on straight line
SIGNS OF EFFECTIVE ATTACHMENT
- you’re comfortable
- baby looks comfortable , relaxed not tense, frowning and wriggling
- baby mouth is open wide against the breast with nipple and breast in mouth
- baby chin is touching the breast
-baby has deep jaw movement with drinking
NOTE
one of the neonatal danger sign is not be able to breastfeed.
